Welcome to au_challenge, an AU (Alternate Universe) challenge community! There are two types of challenge options available: pre-made prompt tables or a randomized bingo card. Regardless of which type you choose, there are no deadlines and no need to claim anything (other than to request your card). This is a laidback, low pressure fanwork challenge!

Rules/Guidelines:

1. All types of fanworks are allowed. Fanfic, fanart, fanmixes, fanvids, graphics, and so on. As long as you created it, you can submit it. There are no maximums/minimums/other restrictions on how much you need to create as long as it's a complete work.


2. Fanworks and original works are both allowed. How do you AU an original work? That's up to you!


3. You can interpret the prompts however you see fit. A teacher AU doesn't have to take place in a school; a vampire AU doesn't have to be your standard Dracula-esque vampire. Stretch the bounds of your universes!


4. Be considerate of others. No ship/character bashing, hate speech, or other harassment is allowed. Warn for any sensitive subject matter (or indicate that you're choosing not to warn).


5. You aren't required to post your completed works to the comm, but if you do, please use the posting template below!


6. If you complete a bingo or prompt table, feel free to take a winner banner from here.

Posting Guidelines & Template:

1. You can post your completed work to the comm itself, or post it to your journal or another site of your choosing and just link it here. If posting your full work directly to the community, please put it behind a cut tag.


2. New tags will be created by the mod, but go ahead and tag your works with the relevant existing tags when you create your post.


3. You're also welcome to add your work to the AO3 Collection if you'd like!

Literally was just asking people for some AUs yesterday because I wanted to do an AU-only thing for a certain ship and then saw this comm today. Perfect timings! 🤩

Still debating whether to request a bingo card or just grab a prompt table and go - but a bit leaning on the latter because I feel like I also quite want to just have a mix and match of my own choosing, if that's all right? Or would grabbing a bingo be better actually 🤔

Truly love this idea and comm though! Love prompt tables (I think my only other entry here in DW is also a prompt table www) and love AUs! Definitely much helpful for completionists like me 😂

Thank you, I hope these prompts help you create some new stuff! I used to love prompt table comms and I feel like I don't see those around quite as often as I used to?

You could always request a bingo and pick out a prompt table, if you'd like! You're also welcome to swap out some prompts on your bingo card if you're feeling stuck or want to avoid something specific.

Definitely haven't seen them around. It's mostly just the older, existing ones that I just also find 😅

Yeah, makes the most sense! That way I can have a solid 5x5 too I suppose. Appreciate the existing prompt tables though, really love how those are categorized, would be fun to perhaps grab from each theme or something, haha. Thank you!

What are prompt tables?

I'm not familiar with prompt tables. May I ask how they work? That is, are they non-random bingo cards, or lists in the form of a table, or something else? Thank you!

Of course! Prompt tables are basically a list of prompts in table format so they're a little neater to copy and display on your own journal/site. Like with bingo cards, when you complete a prompt you just link your work in that square. The difference between them and bingo cards is that they're a non-changing set of prompts and the challenge is to create something for all the prompts in the table! You can check out comms like 100ships or 100fandoms for examples.

Thank you, I'm so glad people seem to be interested! :D I love AUs too and I couldn't find anything AU-specific without deadlines, so I thought I'd toss something out there to fill the void. I hope you enjoy!
